Write for Us

We’re always looking for people who know a part of New York well and can write about it clearly. You don’t need to be a professional writer. You do need to know your subject first-hand.

What we’re looking for

• Neighborhood guides written by people who live or work there.
• Food pieces built around places you’ve actually eaten at, more than once.
• Practical guides for visitors and new arrivals: getting around, saving money, dealing with the city’s quirks.
• Seasonal ideas and events, pitched early enough to publish before they happen.
• Stories from the outer boroughs. We want more of these.

What we don’t publish

• Articles written mainly to place a link to another website. We don’t sell links or accept paid guest posts.
• Text generated by AI tools, or rewritten from other publications.
• Promotional pieces about a business you own or represent. If you have a connection to a place you want to cover, tell us up front.
• Anything you haven’t seen or done yourself.

How to pitch

Email admin@ournycity.com with “Pitch:” at the start of the subject line. Include:

• A working headline and two or three sentences about the angle.
• Why you’re the right person to write it.
• One or two links to things you’ve written before, if you have them.

Please don’t send a finished article. A short pitch is easier for us to respond to, and we may suggest a different angle.

What happens next

We read every pitch. We can’t reply to all of them, so if you haven’t heard from us within two weeks, feel free to pitch the idea elsewhere. If we go ahead, we’ll agree the scope and deadline with you, edit the piece with you and credit you on the article.
